So M and I went out last night, braving the thunder and lightning, to go do our holiday shopping sans children. Everything is pretty much done now. My father and sister are both getting digital picture frames, which we got a good deal on at BJs. My dad, because he is running out of wall space for portraits of the kids, and also because, not having a computer, I can't just give him a CD of photos and expect him to ever see them. After all, printed photos are soooooo 20th century. My sister also requested a digital picture frame, so that will be a joint gift for her and bil. My nephews are the only ones I haven't gotten yet (aside from a couple of friends), but they will probably get either cash (being poor strapped working slobs in their mid 20s) or gift cards.

But last night was about my kids, as well as M's myriad of nieces and nephews. His family decided again this year (and actually bothered to tell us ahead of time this year) to only get gifts for the kids, not the adults. Of course, his brother now has 6, and his sister has 2, so this is no small thing in any case.

I got a bunch of stuff from their list for the boys, mostly video games, as well as some things that weren't on their list, like an origami kit and some Club Penguin stuff for E, and some Magic and Yugioh cards for B (who is also getting his class ring as a partial holiday present). I'll still keep my eyes out for some cute stocking stuffers, and maybe one or two other things for B, but I have to sit down and figure out what is for who, to see if it is pretty well balanced out first.

M is partly done, in that I got him his new mandatory instructor jacket for Nashoba Ski (they change jackets about every 5-6 years). I also got him a couple of pairs of new pjs, but I still want to find a few things for him when he is not around. He is getting me my season pass to Nashoba, and also got me a new camcorder, after discovering that the old one had died earlier this year when I tried to pull it out to record one of E's band concerts.

I'm working from home again today, on the theory that everything might ice up if the temperature drops (at least, that's what I'm telling the boss), since we got a good foot of snow yesterday (the box on the back deck makes a great snow gauge, since it is relatively sheltered from wind, and gives a nice eye-level visual of the snow depth on top). But really it's that I hate going out in the snow, and hate driving in it even more, and here I have the laptop home, so why not milk another day out of it.

Our town seems to have been the only one in the area yesterday that DIDN'T cancel for the snow, and I got an email on the parents' list last night from the superintendent apologizing for the bad call (and also to dispel the rumor that there was a bus accident yesterday morning). I was concerned that, having had all the kids go in morning, they would do something monumentally stupid like send them all home early when it became clear that the meteorologists completely missed the mark, and the storm was going to drop a lot more than 1-2 inches before turning to rain. So that's why I stayed home yesterday.

Progress is being made on projects for this weekend, although it looks like my order from Fire Mountain Gems won't come in time to have the frames to mount the badges in that I want to give away on Sunday. Oh well. I can always deliver them at a later time. But I am excited about getting the seed beads I need to work on the project for EK 12th Night to arrive as well. Speaking of 12th night, I ended up changing our hotel reservation yesterday, after consulting with [livejournal.com profile] chrystie69 , to the Hollow Inn, where we got an efficiency room at the SCA group rate cheaper than the double room at the Days Inn. Which gets us a pull out bed for a 3rd person. And, I found out yesterday from poking around the Panthervale event page that they are going to have indoor archery, which is mentioned NOWHERE in the EK event listing. Now, of course, I have to figure out just how much gear I want to take (because there is also fencing, which I haven't done in forever) and how much I want to try to do, given everything that is going on that day. And there is a ball in the evening. With dancing! I haven't danced at an SCA event in even more forever. Hopefully I will be able to convince some female friends to let me be their male partner, so I don't have to break persona.

[livejournal.com profile] calygrey , are you still planning on coming with? If so, you won't have to bring your air mattress now! I think I am not going to try to fill the 4th spot in my car because I will need the extra cargo room for suitcases and gear (especially if I decide to take the big-assed fencing case).
