So I autocratted the Shire's Halfa event this Saturday. That went ok once I kind of got my feet under me. I haven't done any autocratting since my college/grad-school days. And I've discovered it's also more difficult to step into an autocrat role for an event where someone else has done a bunch of the preliminary groundwork, because you don't really have all the details that you would if you had done it yourself.

I definitely wouldn't mind doing it again (autocratting that is), but I think I would prefer to do an event that *I* did, start to finish. Cassandra and I were tossing around ideas while we were chatting at Hafla, so I might actually put forward something eventually.

That site remains awesome. The hall is gorgeous, the kitchen facilities are awesome, and it's big enough for small events (the count ended up around 80 attendees) like ours without feeling like you could get lost in the bowels somewhere. I'd really, really love to do another feast event there sometime (maybe with some fencing, yeah, yeah, that's the ticket). (Ok, what I'd really love to be able to do is an archery event, but that would not be the place to do it.)

There was lots of help, for which I am very grateful. The dayboard made by [livejournal.com profile] chrystie69  was awesome. I had a few nervous-making moments when I saw that Li was on the list of performers with i Sebastiani, but things are cool there, too.

Sunday was spend recovering; the small boy actually spent most of the afternoon abed feeling ill. We did manage to get the body done for his Pinewood Derby car, since the race is next Saturday. We still need to spiff up the wheels and install them. We did something different for the body this year. E wanted to do *my* car, an orange Honda Element. So I made a body out of cardstock, drew on an appropriate template, which he painted in, then assembled it so that it fit snuggly over the block of wood, and used spray adhesive to fix it in place. I'll take some pics once the wheels are on, so you can get the full effect. It looks pretty cool, I think, and he is pleased with it.

Tonight, after a small trip to the grocery store, and tomorrow night will be for various projects. I don't know yet if archery practice this week will happen or not; the small boy has a school project he neglected all weekend that he needs to get some serious work put in on every night this week.

Also, archery at Li's will be starting up again soon, now that we have passed into daylight savings time. He and I discussed The Plan for this year, although whether or not I'm going to Pennsic is still up in the air (and this affects The Plan because I may or may not be training for the champion's team at Pennsic). But I have some definite goals in mind this year to work towards. Hopefully life will cooperate (hahahahahahahaha). But Meadhbh and I also discussed having some Shire practices at her place this summer.
