danagryphon: (Sun & Moon)
I have survived the latest natal day, and it's belated celebration. The celebration was belated because I spent the actual natal day camping in NH with a dozen and a half boy scouts from my son's troop.

The camping trip was pretty good. The scoutmasters surprised me with a cake Saturday evening, which all the scouts loved helping me eat. :)

Sunday, the boy and I came home, cleansed ourselves vigorously (B stinks after one day, imagine him without a shower, or change of clothes, for a whole weekend; for the record, he had changes of clothes, just opted not to make use of them), and then delivered B to his father. I came home and did some work on the 6 scrolls I have to do before the end of this month, until M's parents arrived.

They hung out at the house with me for a couple of hours until M got home from skiing, then we went off to try Karma restaurant in Westford, which I have read has The Best Sushi in the World. And indeed, the rumors were true. We consumed much sushi, and after M's mother mentioned this was my birthday celebration, the waitresses presented me with a plate of fried ice cream with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate in chocolate sauce. And they sang. It was all very cute.

Today, with the snowpocalypse having caused the cancellation of school and the closing of my work, I am home today with the kids. I think technically, I don't have to do any work, even though I had planned on working from home, since the office is closed.

Once breakfast digests and my coffee kicks in, I'll probably go back to the workshop and scribe like there is no tomorrow. I'm trying some Russian illumination styles I've wanted to do for  while. The nice thing about doing 5 award scrolls for Northern Lights is that it is a good excuse to try some things I'd like to add to my repetoire for kingdom award scrolls. I've been playing around with gold leaf gilding since I got the supplies from [livejournal.com profile] yew_hall  at Birka. Unfortunately, it's an expensive thing to practice (with the leaves being 23K gold and all that), but I definitely want to practice it a few times before trying it on a real scroll.
