Title: Five Easy Steps to Falling in Love
Artist: Gryph ([livejournal.com profile] gryphon2k)
Author: Severina ([livejournal.com profile] severina2001)
Fandom: Live Free or Die Hard
Characters/Pairings: Matt/John
Rating/Category: G/Slash
Warnings: none for story
Summary: Art for [livejournal.com profile] smallfandombang story. The steps to falling in love are pretty standard. A couple meets, goes on a few dates, gets to know each other. They spend time together. There is some hand-holding, some snuggling, kisses that progress to more carnal pursuits. Eventually, they realize that they want to spend the rest of their lives together.
But when you meet your other half on a wild ride across the country chasing terrorists who are trying to destroy America's infrastructure, it follows that the courtship process might evolve a little... differently. The hand-holding might involve mutant rats, for example (at least, it does if you think like Matthew Farrell.) The cuddling may just include rope and a few bad guys (because you're John McClane, and it follows that you get to that stage of the relationship on a holiday.)
The road to true love doesn't always run quite as smoothly as one would hope -- but John and Matt will get there.

Title: Compromised Positions
Author: Tarlan ([livejournal.com profile] tarlanx)
Artist: Gryph ([livejournal.com profile] gryphon2k)
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Art Type: Digital composite, fanmix
Characters/Pairings: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Summary: Art for [livejournal.com profile] mpregbigbang story by [livejournal.com profile] tarlanx. When Atlantis decides to alter the physiology of its inhabitants, John and Rodney end up a bonded pair. But John has a duty to Stargate Command and Earth. How do you choose between duty and love?
Notes: I love the emotions this story evokes of making hard choices, sacrificing happiness for duty, of regret and ultimately, realizing that love is more important than any of that. I tried to capture the flow of the story with the song choices, going from songs about love, to songs about pain and hurt, and then reconciliation. I love John's expression in the screencap I used for the mix cover, with Rodney in the background.
For the banner, I wanted to create a composite of the elements of the story; Atlantis in the background, John and Rodney both with deliciously confused looks (because I picture their relationship having a lot of those kinds of moments), with the promise of family as a fainter image.
Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tarlanx for being a great author to work with (again!); she always puts out such wonderful stories that the art just flows so easily.

I made this mix for [livejournal.com profile] waywardmixes Round 15: Heroes and Villains; as soon as I saw the theme, I knew I had to make a mix for Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead.

Warning: Spoilers for the end of S3 in the art on the back cover (which I'm putting below the cut).

Ain’t No Hero
A Daryl Dixon Fanmix by Gryph

Daryl Dixon will be the first person to tell you he “ain’t no hero”. Before the zombie apocalypse, he was just another red-neck, petty-criminal punk. But somewhere along the way, he started saving people. And that’s what heroes do, save people.

Title: Driving Opposites
Author: [livejournal.com profile] twilighthdfan
Fandom: The Fast and the Furious
Characters/Pairings: Dom/Brian
Art Type: story cover, fanmix (with covers)
Notes: Art for smallfandombang.  The story is an AU of the movie, where lots of people have mutant powers, and there is a slow, smoldering love story between Dom and Brian. I never saw any of the movies (but I'm a HUGE Vin Diesel fan), but I know the general plot and didn't feel like I needed more to thoroughly enjoy [livejournal.com profile] twilighthdfan's vision. Title: The Everlasting Gaze
Author: [livejournal.com profile] rsk110
Fandom: The Walking Dead
Characters/Pairings: Daryl/Glenn
Art Type: story cover, fanmix (with covers)
Notes: Art for smallfandombang. I really loved the angsty mood of this story, with it's themes of lost, longing, and a kernel of hope. The story cover focuses more on the gray devastation that Daryl lives with in a wintery Manhattan, while the mix focuses more on the relationship that gives him (and me) so many feelings. I don't want to spoil it, so you'll have to go read [livejournal.com profile] rsk110's amazing story for yourself. Art is also posted on AO3.

Title: You'll Never See the End of the Road (While You're Travelling With Me)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] severina2001
Fandom: The Walking Dead
Characters/Pairings: Daryl/Glenn
Art Type: graphic, fanmix (with covers)
Notes: Art for smallfandombang. The story is a schmoopy build on a relationship between Daryl and Glenn that takes place post-S2. [livejournal.com profile] severina2001 does a great job capturing all the characters, and with enough action to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The graphic is based on a snarky Daryl comment in the fic, and I thought the screencap really just cried out for snarkiness. Art is also posted on AO3.

Fandom: Priest
Characters/Pairings: Black Hat/Priest
Art Type: story cover, fanmix (with covers)
Notes: Choosing this story for [livejournal.com profile] smallfandombang was a good reason for me to buy the movie and watch it. The story is a sequel to the movie that supposes that Black Hat did not die. The plot is fantastic, and the ending... well, you'll just have to read [livejournal.com profile] tarlanx's awesomeness for yourself. Art is also posted on AO3.

Title: For I Believe In Harbors At The End
Author: [livejournal.com profile] laurie_ky
Fandom: The Incredible Hulk (TV)
Characters/Pairings: Jack McGee/David Banner (John Doe)
Art Type: chapter headers, fanmix (with covers)
Notes: Art for [livejournal.com profile] smallfandombang. I loved this series in no small part due to Bill Bixby's gentle yet conflicted portrayal of David (Bruce) Banner, which was a beautiful counterpoint to the power and violence of the Hulk. [livejournal.com profile] laurie_ky's story really captures the feeling of the original series, but explores the developing relationship between Jack McGee and David Banner (who McGee only knows as John Doe) which, of course, never could have been shown on TV in that era. It's a slow, smoldering dance that parallels the show and references events in specific episodes. She chose Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward, Angel as an inspiration piece, including quotes from it at the beginning of each chapter. I took that and ran with it, using photos of the actual marble angel statue that Wolfe references in the book. The songs in the mix span 1972-1981, and are songs I imagine David Banner might have listened to on his travels during the course of the series. The art is also posted on AO3.

As I mentioned before, I signed up on [livejournal.com profile] smallfandombang to do art for four stories. And by art, I mean fan mixes (with covers). Well, okay, I'm also trying to do at least one other graphic for each story. I've got three of them done, and have the songs picked for the fourth.

I love doing mixes for stories because I use music as an inspirational tool for myself when I write, to help set the mood I want to come out in the story. And given that two of my four stories (the two Walking Dead ones) have song titles/lyrics as their titles, I know a lot of other authors do too. The Incredible Hulk story uses quotes from "Look Homeward, Angel", and I've incorporated imagery related to that book into the art for the story.

I even picked up a new fandom! I've seen the movie Priest pimped on [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest, and love Karl Urban and Paul Bettany, not to mention, what's not to love about post-apocalypic dystopian church vs. vampire stories? So this was a good excuse to finally get off my duff and buy the DVD (wicked cheap) from Amazon and watch it. Good stuff. And the story was written as a sequel, and is wonderful. All the stories were really good—I'm glad I picked such a talented batch of authors!

And I'm learning a ton doing this. First, my mad PS skills continue to improve. I think some of the covers for the mixes are really good. I found a program to let me do my own screencaps from DVDs, and another one that will let me edit the metadata of song files outside of iTunes so I can preserve my original files. I'm learning all about how to make the song files really nice—tagging them with my covers, making mp3 files from m4a files, how to check to make sure the encoding is right to work happily with iPods. Basically, all the little details that annoy me when they *don't* get done on other mixes that I've seen.

Posting dates for this bang will be all during April. Most of my authors want early dates, which is fine with me—I will be done in plenty of time. So keep an eye on this space for mixes to be unlocked and posted throughout April.

After that, I'm doing two fanfic exchanges that are due for end of April/beginning of May. Having a blast!

Art for [livejournal.com profile] blossomdreams's Avengers mpregbigbang story, Never Judge A Cover. I did a banner, a few icons, and a fanmix (with a cover). I think Bruce and Tony are an adorable couple, with Bruce being so quiet and self-effacing, and Tony is totally... well... Tony.

Art for [livejournal.com profile] rainbowxrose's Harry Potter [livejournal.com profile] mpregbigbang story, The Beast Within. I did a banner and a fanmix (with a cover). The story was incredibly bittersweet, so it inspired some angsty songs.

I'm still new to making fanmixes, but the series finale of House just reminded me of so many songs, I had to do one for it. I'm not a digital artist, but I've done my best to make a little cover art to go with it. I love the picture of the guys on the motorcycles in their leather jackets, with Wilson looking wistfully into the middle distance. Anyway, here it is, I hope you enjoy.

I made a fanmix (ok, evidently this is technically a ficmix), but still, my first! It goes with my fanfiction novel, Common Ground. Each chapter of the fanfict is actually named for a song. And I made a cover! Look at my mad Ps skillz. (Ok, NOT. All I did was crop the wonderful cover made by my friend Dave B., and add the text for the track list. But still. For me, this is an accomplishment.) I've got a fanmix for the series finale of House I'm working on, but I've got to figure out what to do for some art for it.
